Rescue-15 received 103,020 help calls during the month of February from people who were extended timely help, said Naeem Iqbal, a spokesman of Islamabad Police here on Thursday. He said that most of the calls were related to dacoities, robberies, domestic disputes, car and motorcycles theft and accidents. Apart from this, the service also handed over elderly people and missing children to their parents, besides providing ambulance service in most of the cases, he said.
Rescue-15 is the sole institution of Islamabad Police that extends help to people in time of need. As many as 88 people were provided with immediate medical facility while two missing children Aaqib Ejaz and Sajawal were handed over to their families, the spokesman said, adding that the Rescue-15 also provided free ambulance service to 1830 people following their calls while as many as 88 citizens were rushed to hospitals and saved their lives.
As many as 4,924 citizens were provided general information while a total of 584 vehicles were verified and issued certificates and the rescue service also provided information to the relevant police stations for 288 vehicles, he said. He said that the service also handed over two stolen vehicles to the relevant police stations. Bomb Disposal Squad also turned up following 43 important calls from different places in the city.
A total of 1995 vehicles were also checked and forensic science experts also reached 50 crime scenes and protected the crime scene. Forensic evidences were collected and investigation staff was provided help in arresting criminals, the spokesman said. SSP Tahir Alam Khan ordered the in-charge of Rescue-15 to ensure life and property of citizens. He also ordered to make the service more functional to help citizens and said that more projects should be set up. He also appealed to citizens for avoiding unnecessary calls to the service because the lines get busy and people in need do not get timely help from the service.
