The Ministry of Industries and Production on Thursday upgraded Management Information System (MIS) Center to improve efficiency in collection and compilation of the Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) data. Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani inaugurated the center and expressed the hope that it would help in collecting and compiling the LSM data within minimum possible time.
The time-lag of data collection was approximately 30 to 40 days prior to date, now the upgraded MIS Center would be able to collect this data in less than 10 days from the manufacturing units, Joint Secretary Policy and Planning of the Ministry, Shaista Sohail briefed the minister. Among others the inaugural ceremony was attended by Abdul Ghaffar Soomro, Secretary Industries and Production and other officers and officials of the Ministry.
The minister was informed that the cumulative LSM growth rate for July 2010 to January 2011 for the 37 items was 0.84%, showing a positive trend. The growth rate for January 2011 compared to January 2010 has increased by 1.1%. It is also pertinent to mention here that the Ministry has been collecting LSM data of 37 items' since its inception and has been providing reasons of variation in their production from manufacturing associations, Provincial Bureaus of Statistics and direct from units on monthly basis.
After the data collection, it is computerised and tabulated in different formats as desired by the users showing trends in production. Later, the data is forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Statistics for compiling the Quantum Index of Manufacturing (QIM) for 100 items.-PR
