Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said that every institution should work under the constitution and any move to interfere in the matters of other institutions would be harmful for the country.
Talking about a strike call by the PPP in Sindh against the removal of Chairman NAB former Justice Deedar Hussain Shah, the minister said it was not a party policy and every body had the right to express sentiments on the Supreme Court verdict.
The law ministry was reviewing the verdict of the Supreme Court on the appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the matter would be decided as per law, she added. Responding to another question, she said that political matters should be discussed and decided in the parliament, not in the courts.
Opposing the politics of confrontation, she said that all political parties should work for strengthening democratic institutions as criticism for the sake of criticism was a threat to democracy. She said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as opposition in the Punjab Assembly would play a positive role in pinpointing Punjab government's wrongdoing. "The PPP is a federal political party struggling for establishing democratic institutions and it will not take any step to harm democracy," she said while talking to newsmen at Allama Iqbal International Airport here.
She said the PML-N was sitting on opposition benches in the National Assembly while the PPP in opposition in the Punjab Assembly would give a roadmap for the betterment of people of the province. Criticiing "Lotaism," (Turncoat) the minister said that real democracy was restored to the country after a long struggle adding every political party should promote positive attitude by discouraging horse-trading. "People of Punjab will reject political parties which indulged in promoting "Lotaism" as it would prove dangerous for the province," she added. She said that to a question on the Wage Board Award, Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the matter was in court and the government would implement the decision.
