Multinational exercise AMAN-11 has entered its sea phase, it was announced by a spokesperson of Pakistan Navy here on Friday. Naval assets including ships, helicopters, submarines and special forces elements sailed out to the Arabian Sea where the exercise is in progress. All the maritime platforms participating in the exercise are being subjected to the real threat environment.
Various tactical manoeuvres replenishment at sea including transfer of men and material from one ship to another, surface firing on pre-determined targets, countering air-to-surface and surface-to-surface threat, insertion of commandos on ships through helicopters and anti submarine warfare exercises were conducted. Search and rescue exercises were also rehearsed to provide assistance to ships in distress in actual scenario.
Earlier, during the harbour phase, the participating forces deliberated upon planning and execution of the exercise. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were discussed at length to be practically implemented during the sea phase. The sea phase would be followed by analysis phase. The harbour phase also included activities such as International Maritime Conference wherein renowned scholars, besides locals, and those from abroad presented papers on various maritime issues. A Maritime Counter Terrorism Demonstration was also held by Pakistan Navy Special Forces. Boarding drills in harbour were also carried out by joint forces to practice regaining control of ship under attack of pirates.
