Inscription of information about dangerous effects of chemicals on imported items proposed

Pakistan has proposed international community to inscribe dangerous effects of chemicals on various imported items for the safety of end users. Pakistan's proposals for inscribing dangerous effects of chemicals on various imported items would be reviewed at international forum to prevent end users and manufactures from the adverse effects of chemicals, said Joint Secretary International Co-operation, Abid Ali while presiding a meeting here on Friday.
Ali said that due to technical terminologies and scientific data written at the labels of imported items the consumers remain unaware of the negative impacts of chemicals on human health and environment so it should be made mandatory for manufactures of toys, electronics and other similar items to prominently display the after effects of different substances/chemicals to be used in these items.
He said a number of countries appreciated the recommendations and supported Pakistan's stance to draft safety guidelines for all those who had been involved in using chemicals in common use articles. Pakistan was raising its voice at all international forums to make efforts and promulgate laws for inscribing hazardous effects at useable imported items so that people could be educated at grass roots level, he added.
