Punjab Labour Minister Syed Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi has said that government is giving top priority to the provision of modern healthcare facilities to all segments of the society specially the labourers.
He said that the main objective of the labour department is to provide free of cost comprehensive healthcare facilities to the workers and their family members.
He said that during the last financial years more than 6,005,265 workers were provided healthcare facilities at a cost of Rs 3,387 million. While talking to worker's delegations, Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi here on Sunday said that steps are underway to eliminate the quakes and spurious drugs and opportunities of continued medical education (CME) as well as the inland and outland training facilities would be provided to the doctors' community.
He said that four new medical colleges would be opened up in the province in health sector whereas, two medical colleges each at Lahore and Faisalabad would be launched by the labour department to make up shortage of doctors and for the provision of standardised facilities to the masses and the special packages of salary and incentives are being given to doctors, nurses and paramedical staff so that services of experts and talented professionals could be acquired.
He said that 950 seats had been increased in the medical colleges and 1,600 new medical officers had been recruited through PPSC purely on merit whereas, more than 6000 contract doctors had been made permanent so that to provide healthcare facilities to the maximum number of population.
He said that in order to provide specialised treatment/diagnostic facilities near to the workplace of labourers, the Labour Department had established satellite clinics at Phoolnagar, Jaranwala, Hasan Abdal etc whereas, more than 550 specialist doctors had been recruited by the Punjab government to provide better treatment facilities to the majority of the masses in the province.
