Falling down boy from aircraft: secretary defence admits incident as security lapse
Secretary Defence Lieutenant General Syed Athar Ali (Retd) admitted that the youngster who fell down from a flying aircraft soon after took-off was a security lapse, which has been rectified. In downtown Lahore Faisal town a body fell from the sky apparently from a plane, Civil Aviation Authorities was informed about the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that the body fell down from a plane just after it took off for Dubai on January 13, 2011. He informed this in National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defence. The committee met with Dr Azra Fazal Peechoho in chair on Monday. Secretary said he visited various airports of the country himself and inspected security arrangements and found lapses in these. He said ministry already took various steps to make the security foolproof. To a question, he said that currently ministry has deployed 8000 to 9000 well-trained security staff on 26 airports of the country.
The Chairman Sub-Committee on Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, Begum Ishrat Ashraf also presented its findings to the main committee of defence. The committee in its recommendations said that all the perks and privileges of Managing Director and Directors of PIAC would be frozen at the current level. Begum Ishrat further recommended to ban fresh recruitments in corporation.
