Planning Commission''s Central Development Working Party (CDWP) scheduled to meet today (Wednesday) is expected to approve five projects mostly relating to rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-hit areas costing Rs 63.7 billion.
One project belongs to Balochistan province and though Punjab had also suffered a huge loss due to floods no Punjab project is to be tabled before CDWP for approval. In water sector, CDWP will consider recommending "Umbrella PC-1 for Sindh Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project for Bunds and Canals (2010 Floods) costing Rs 20.9 billion to Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for formal approval.
Under this project, government would launch 76 emergent flood protection schemes in flood areas of Sindh province. Initiatives will also be taken for restoration of canals and structures devastated by flood. The government will start reconstruction schemes for drains and rebuilding of structures damaged by floods 2010.
CDWP is also likely to recommend "Reconstruction/R rehabilitation of 2010 Flood Affected Roads 12 FT, 18FT&24FT Wide Road Lower Sindh and Upper Sindh" at the total cost of Rs 14.6 billion to Ecnec. Under this project, government will take measures to rebuild road infrastructure in Sindh damaged due to floods.
Water and Power Division will seek approval for the "Rehabilitation of Flood Damages 2010 in RBOD-1 Project" costing Rs 14.7 billion to rebuild the water and power sector infrastructure damaged across the country due to floods. CDWP may approve one flood-related project in Balochistan namely "Balochistan Effluent Disposal into RBOD (RBOD-111) Rehabilitation/ Reconstruction of the Damages caused by 2010 Floods" at the cost of Rs 793.3 million. CDWP is empowered to approve development projects costing up to one billion rupees.
