The average price of Bangladeshi teas fell 5.48 percent to 84.78 taka ($1.18) per kg on poor quality at the last and final weekly auction of the outgoing season on Tuesday, brokers said. Some 27.42 percent of the 1.28 million kg on offer remained unsold and were taken back to storage.
Bangladeshi buyers, including exporters mainly to the Commonwealth of Independent States and Pakistan participated in the auction, held in the country's lone auction centre in the main port city Chittagong. Different grades were sold between 40 taka and 235 taka per kg at the auction. The next sale that is the opening auction of the incoming tea season (April-March) will be held on Tuesday, April 26 with a small offer of new crops. The quantity of the offer will be aannounced later.
