Prices were sharply higher on the wholesale grain market on Wednesday as a result of tight supplies from upcountry centres, dealers said. On the cereal side makai after maintaining a stable trend for many weeks, low type rose by Rs 125 and good type gained Rs 88 to Rs 3025.
Barley was up by Rs 100 to Rs 2900. Wheat old Bardan (old crop) was trading at Rs 2800, wheat new Bardan (old crop) was quoted at Rs 2815, wheat old Bardan new crop at Rs 2700 and wheat new Bardan new crop was registered at Rs 2710. Gur low type did not show any change at Rs 5400 while good type was higher by Rs 200 to Rs 6400, they said.
On the seeds side, cottonseeds oilcake with bag low type was higher by Rs 25 to Rs 1350 and better type stayed put at Rs 1375, they said. On the rice sector Irri-6 sindh picked up Rs 25 to Rs 3325-3400 and Irri-white (broken) registered higher at Rs 2900, they said. Grams sector was unmoved in process of trading, they said.
