Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah informed the Punjab Assembly here on Thursday that Raymond Davis was released on the orders of a court and his government had only complied with these orders. Disclosing that the families of victims had gone into hiding fearing a public reaction, Rana Sanaullah said that he did not know anything about the payment of Diyat and only the lawyers of the victims were in a position to explain it.
Legislators belonging to all the political parties were seen protesting against the release of Raymond Davis; an stance that was contrary to the stand taken by the leadership of the respective parties on the issue. The PML-Q legislators were in the forefront while expressing their annoyance over the release of Davis and the deal of blood money.
However, the PPP MPAs under the leadership Raja Riaz did not subscribe to the stance of PML-Q legislators without adopting a clear position on the issue. Thursday's session was once again marred by shouting and sloganeering on the issue of unification group and none of the MPAs was bothered the issues including the taxation measures recently announced by the federal government and its affects on the masses already hit hard by inflation and rising prices. However, the speaker of the assembly forwarded six bills to the committees for deliberations which were asked to submit their report in the house after one month.
The bills sent to committees included: The Registration (Amendment) Bill 2011; The Hindu Disposition of Property (Amendment)Bill 2011;The Provincial Insolvency (Amendment)Bill 2011;The Charitable and Religious Trusts (Amendment)Bill 2011;The Hindu Inheritance (Removal of disabilities)(Amendment)Bill 2011;The Hindu Law of Inheritance (Second Amendment)Bill 2011.
During question answer session, Rana Sanaullah informed that total area of Cholistan was 6655360 acres out of which 94893 acres were cultivated. He said canal system was available in Bhawalpur Division from where floodwater was provided to Cholistanis during 2-2.5 month of the flood season.
To a query minister stated that department of information technology was established in the Province on September 1, 2001.He said there were two offices of information technology department in the Punjab. Punjab Minister said that under four-sector programme Rs 300 million and under PDP programme Rs 104 million were allocated in year 2009-10 in District Rahim Yar Khan.
Answering a query of MPA Muhammad Yar Hiraj on the figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics that there were 32.97 million people below the poverty line in the province and their ratio was increasing by 12,500 persons per day could not be confirmed due to non-availability of latest information. After dealing with certain Call Attention Notices, the House was later adjourned by the Chair for Friday morning (Today).
