Islamabad High Court on Friday issued notices to the secretaries of interior and Election Commission, Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), owner of Bahria Town Malik Riaz and sought their response by March 28.
The notice was issued on a petition filed by the voters of NA-52 in connection with the issuance of fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) in the constituency of Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. The single bench comprising Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan conducted hearing of the case.
Advocate Kashif Ali, counsel of the voters of NA 52 apprised the court that Nadra, officials in connivance with the property tycoon Malik Riaz were engaged in issuing 100,000 fresh CNICs to the employees of Bahria Town. He said Nadra had been provided the address of Bahira Town office situated in the same area where Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is likely to contest next general election. He termed it a flagrant and systematic violation of the law and section 30 and 31 of the Nadra ordinance. He maintained that the entire registration exercise is tainted with malafide motives and illegalities, otherwise, there is no justification whatsoever for the issuance of CNICs.
