The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh, Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal has urged upon the philanthropists of Mirpurkhas Region to come forward for helping in the development of the varsity's campus and donate scholarships for poor and needy students of the campus.
He was speaking at a gathering of the philanthropists, members of civil society, educationists, elected representatives, and senior citizens and people from different walks of life at the campus. The VC invited the people of Mirpurkhas region to contribute their efforts through scholarships for poor students, support for books for the library, furniture and computers and other material. He said that the varsity is striving hard for acquiring land and as soon as it is available, a building will be constructed and sciences, social sciences and arts disciplines will be launched.
Co-ordinator of SU and former Provincial Minister, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani informed that 17 disciplines for teaching have been approved but due to shortage of classes, only five disciplines have been started at the initial stage. Pro Vice Chancellor SU Campus Mirpurkhas, Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio said 400 students are studying in five disciplines and added that a positive sign is that no single boycott occurred during the last 18 months at the campus.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Sarfraz Raja said that this campus is a great honour for the people of Mirpurkhas Region and added that students from four districts have been availing the facility of higher education. President Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mirza Azam on this occasion assured the varsity of all-out co-operation and hoped that SU will continue such meetings with the stakeholders in the future. Senior citizens Raees Khair Muhammad Bhurgri, Pir Nisar Jan Sarhandi, Advocate S.A.Khan, Professor Khursheed Siddique, Advocate Zafar Leghari, Regional Director Colleges Mirpurkhas Abdul Aziz Panhwar and others expressed their views and shared ideas for the betterment of the campus. The meeting was also attended by Registrar of the University Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, former Vice Chancellor Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Dr Abdul Ahad Abro, DCO Mirpurkhas Ghulam Hussain Memon, former Taluka Nazims, senior educationists and professors of various colleges.
