The Jamaat-i-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan has counselled the "Khadam-e-Aala" Punjab not to behave as "Zaalam-e-Aala" and stop victimisation of doctors and PCS officers. Talking to a delegation of young doctors, which called on him at Mansoora on Saturday, he called for accepting the genuine demands of doctors and Punjab Civil Service (PCS) officers and called for immediate withdrawal of cases against them.
Hasan deplored that there is 'one man show' in Punjab as rulers claiming to be democrats are 'ruling like kings'. He pointed out there is no health minister in the province of 100 million population and the department is being run through a secretary who is only a personal advisor. In principle, the health secretary who is attending Nipa course should not continue with his present post, he added.
He noted that doctors are on the roads in protest and patients are suffering, but instead of accepting their genuine demands, government is threatening them of dismissal. He further said that because of the prevailing conditions, around 7,000 doctors have already left the country and another 4,000 are preparing to. Hasan said Punjab government is was spending millions on the publication of advertisements against doctors and that this huge amount could be saved for providing them higher salaries.
Earlier, The delegation apprised the JI chief of their grievances and their victimisation by the government. They said that their families are also being harassed and different pressure tactics are being adopted against them.
Meanwhile, JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch condemned police torture on PCS officers, their arrests and dismissal of some of them. In a statement, he said PCS officers had been voicing their grievances at different forums for quite some time, but Punjab government did not take any interest in resolving their problems.
He added that the provincial government has given a negative signal by the torture and arrests of the officers, instead of inviting them for dialogue. He asserted that lodging male and female officers at police stations is a gross violation of human rights. Also, JI Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha said that the problems of people of Punjab have multiplied due to the arrogance of the rulers and District Management Group officers.
