The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Monday directed Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and police department to allow in-service police constables to appear in examination being held to fill vacancies of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in Punjab. The court however, observed that their decision will subject to the final verdict of the court.
The court passed the order in some identical petitions of in-service police constables disputing age limit of 25 years set for the examination with no age relaxation option for in service men. The petitioners Muhammad Umer and others submitted that Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) announced 750 vacancies of ASIs in Police department with 25 years age limit and no age relaxation for in-service constables.
They said the 25 years age limit for the examination may be suitable for fresh graduates but not for in-service constables. The petitioner submitted that the respondents including police department acted with malafide intentions ousting the in-service police constables from the competition. They said a lot of constables in the Punjab police having MA/MSc qualification want to sit in the examination but they have not been given age relaxation by the police department and PPSC.
