Court extended physical remand of former Religious Affairs Minister, Hamid Saeed Kazmi for five more days and handed him over to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation pertaining to multi-million Hajj corruption scam.
The FIA investigation team produced Kazmi before the court of Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Aslam Gondal on Monday and Additional Director (Legal) of the FIA, Khalid Naeem pleaded before the court for nine-day remand to investigate the former minister in the Hajj scandal.
During the hearing of the case against Hamid Saeed Kazmi, his supporters chanted slogans in his favour in the courtroom. The judge expressed annoyance regarding the presence of sloganeering supporters in the court and directed the police to ensure the court decorum.
Wajid Gilani, defence counsel of Hamid Saeed Kazmi objected the FIA plea for extension in remand, saying that his client was being implicated in the case, as the FIA failed in getting any information from him in the previous five days remand about his alleged involvement in the hajj scam and now why the authority wanted extension in his remand.
He said that sentiments of thousands of Kazmi's devotees are hurt who do not see him behind the bars. Hamid Saeed Kazmi pleaded before the court that he is not feeling well so that he should be allowed medical examination. The court accepted the request of his medical examination. The court also accepted the plea of the FIA investigation team and granted five-day physical remand.
