Spokesman of the Punjab University has criticised present body of Academic Staff Association (ASA) for supporting former Superintendent Dr Tabassam Jamal's 'illegal' occupation on official residence. He said that the activity of ASA had proved that it only provided protection to violators and did not want implementation of merit policy in the varsity.
The spokesman made it clear that as the extension was not given to Dr Tabassam Jamal in March 2010. She was served two notices to vacate the said house. Dr Tabassam, who is already facing inquires on financial, disciplinary and academic mismanagement, reached the court and the court dismissed her application on merit.
However, she was given another opportunity to vacate the house on her own. Later, the varsity administration issued her five more notices after one another because the new Superintendent was in dire need of residence to perform her duties. The administration disconnected her residence's electricity connection last Saturday after serving her seven notices. The present Body of Academic Staff Association has the tendency to always protect blacksheeps like Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz and Dr Iftikhar Baloch. "However the administration is handling the issue in accordance with rules and regulations and will not fall to prey to political blackmailing," he added.
