Taiwan stocks rose 0.44 percent on Wednesday, paced by gains in banks such as Chang Hwa Bank and by technology issues like Wistron Corp which are expected to gain orders after the disaster in Japan. However, investor sentiment was cautious since the market had almost returned to pre-earthquake levels, some traders said.
The broader market could retreat to the low levels last week of around 8,000 points in near future, he said. The main TAIEX index ended up 37.04 points at 8,545.08, with financials 0.84 percent higher and Chang Hwa Bank up nearly 2 percent.
