The unabated targeted killings on Thursday claimed eight more lives including the workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaat-e- Islami (JI) and Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) at various parts of the metropolis.
Several areas of the city remained tense as the law and enforcement agencies have appeared ineffective to come up with comprehensive strategy to avert targeted killings and bring the situation under control.
According to details, an activist of MQM was gunned down while other injured near Qasba Moor within the limits of Orangi Town police station.
The victim 24-year-old Javed son of Azeem, a resident of sector 1 Orangi Town, was targeted when he was on the way to home. Resultantly Javed and a passer-by namely Noman, 18, son of Fazal Ur Rehman sustained bullets wounds. Police shifted them to Qatar Hospital where Javed succumbed to his injuries.
Later the body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. Police have so far not confirmed his affiliation with any political party.
Tension prevailed in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, and Katti Pahari after the killing as unidentified miscreants set two passenger busses on fire near Deig Wali Building, Qasba Moor. Fire brigade rushed to the spot and extinguished fire. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, an activist of JI was shot dead near Sindhi Hotel in the limits of New Karachi Industrial Area. The deceased Imran Akhter, son of Ali Akhter, a resident of sector 5 J New Karachi, was killed by two unknown armed men when he was standing on his bakery situated near Sindhi Hotel New Karachi. Resultantly he received three bullets and died on the spot. Police shifted his body to ASH for medico legal formalities. Police said the victim was the activist of JI and a father of three. No case was registered till filing of this report.
Similarly, a former unit In charge of ISO was gunned down near Ship Owner College in the jurisdiction of Sharah Noor Jahan police station. The victim Barkat Ali son of Shaukat Ali was standing on his shop situated near Ship Owner College, North Nazimabad, when unidentified-armed men hit him with bullets. The body was transported to ASH for post-mortem.
Police said the victim, a resident of Kunwari Colony Manghopir, hailed from Gilgit and a former unit In charge of ISO in Government College North Nazimabad. The victim was later buried at Wadi Hussain graveyard at Super Highway.
Two bullet-riddled bodies were found from Allah Dad ground in Ismail Goth Landhi in the precincts of Sharafi Goth police station. The victims were later identified as Saeed son of Akbar and Sardar son of Momin. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities. Police said both victims had several criminal cases.
Another bullet-riddled body of youth was found from Khajoor Bazaar in the limits of Kharadar police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained.
Police said the victim, whose hands and legs were roped, received single bullet on his head. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.
A body was found in the bushes at Ayub Goth within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained. The victim had several torture marks and police believed that victim stifled to death. The body was brought to ASH and later moved to Edhi Morgue.
A 28-year-old Zeeshan Ghauri son of Abdul Latif was shot dead near Chiragh Hotel. The victim was the resident of Sector 3-A Landhi. Police said the victim had several criminal cases and might have been murdered by his accomplices. No case was registered till filing of this report.
