Punjab government would make all-out efforts to provide necessary support to Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) in making Lahore Shopping Festival a success. The assurance was given by Member National Assembly, Pervaiz Malik while chairing a meeting regarding the event at LCCI. The meeting discussed in detail the programme of the festival to be held from April 3-10 in Lahore.
The chair, while emphasising the importance of the event, said that the city of Lahore is projected as a business and cultural hub of the country and that activities such as Basant, Mela Charghan, Horse & Cattle Show, etc are fading away. He added that in order to present a positive image of the city, such activities are very important.
While assuring all possible assistance to LCCI in organising the event, Malik said that LCCI should co-ordinate with District Co-ordination Officer, Lahore and Home Department to ensure safety of the plan. He appreciated the initiative taken by LCCI and said that such activities would help boost economy and image of the province. He suggested that there is a need to institutionalise such activities through which lower income segment can also get exposure. He urged upon the business community to contribute to social development by adopting, parks, animals at zoo, etc as a gesture of corporate social responsibility.
The MNA suggested constituting event-specific committee under the chairmanship of Secretary Industries, which would co-ordinate with the chamber in order to work out modalities for organising the festival and provide the required support.
Secretary Industries and Commerce Dr Shujat Ali, Vice President LCCI, Senior Vice President LCCI, Additional Secretary Industries, Director General Punjab Board of Information Technology, Director General Public Relations, Director Zoo, Deputy Secretary Home and SP (Mobile) were also present in the meeting.
