Aziz Memon, a famed entrepreneur and an acclaimed social worker, was conferred the prestigious Pride of Performance award by President Asif Ali Zardari in a graceful ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Pakistan Day.
Aziz Memon was decorated with the medallion by the Head of the State in recognition of his outstanding and exceptional contribution in the field of public service for a number of years, said a news release issued here on Friday.
It is another feather in the cap of Aziz Memon whose contribution in humanitarian and community services has been legendary. He has been the recipient of the Rotary International's highest award 'Service Above Self' as well as the coveted award of Leader of the Leaders.
Under his chairmanship of the National Polio Plus Committee, Rotary International contributed dollars 70 million to eradicate Polio from Pakistan.
With the help of this funding several National Immunisation Days and advocacy campaign for polio have been made possible. His inspirational leadership has helped sustain the polio immunisation drive in the country which benefits over 33 million Pakistani children.
His contribution to the social welfare and community development in Pakistan is unparalleled. He joined Rotary International in the 1995. During his tenure as President of the Rotary Club of Karachi he succeeded in completing his dream project of the Rotary Club of Karachi PN Model School in Lyari for which an amount of Rs 38 million was raised.
During the floods that devastated many parts of Pakistan last year, Aziz Memon acted promptly and proactively to facilitate the affectees through various committees. About 10,000 shelter boxes were shipped to the affected areas comprising bedding, curtains and Biscuits. Hundreds of food supply bags and water bottles and cans were also supplied there.
