The DCO, Karachi, Muhammad Husain Syed has urged the government to release Rs 2 billion allocated under Annual Development Programme (ADP) to City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to complete ongoing development projects.
Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Saturday, he expressed fear that the allocated amount will be lapsed if it is not released by June 30, 2011.
He offered to provide machinery including bulldozers, dumpers, etc to carry out cleanliness drive in the industrial area. He said that repair work of Jam Sadique Bridge would soon be started. He further informed that bridges in Malir No 15 and Malir Halt would also be executed in the next budget. He agreed with KATI to hold weekly meetings at KATI office to monitor day to day affairs.
The Chairman, KATI, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari expressed the deteriorating condition of the economy due to ever-increasing lawlessness in the city, skyrocketing utilities' price and poor infrastructure. He demanded of the CDGK to establish a separate hydrant in Korangi Industrial Area to provide water to the industries located at the tail end. He said that Jam Sadiq Bridge has remained in the dilapidated condition and if the repair would not be carried out the fatal accident may occur any time. He further asked the CDGK to start campaign against encroachments from the KIA especially from Sector 7-A, 23, 17, 15 and 27. He pointed out that roadside food vendors have become a source of nuisance and providing shelter to the unscrupulous people.
Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said on this occasion that Jam Sadiq Bridge would be linked up with Defence Bridge. He said that solar energy project in KIA is acceptable to the industrialists and would be taken up. The Chairman, KATI's Standing Committee on CDGK, Faraz Rehman pointed out deteriorating infrastructure in the KIA and demanded separate allocation of fund to this most important industrial area of the country. PTA Chairman, Aziz Ahmed and former Chairman, Gulzar Firoz have demanded of the immediate repairs of road network and removal of encroachments from Sector 7-A (Tannery Zone).
