Socio-political circles have expressed deep concern on inordinate delay in initiating mega project of Sialkot-Lahore motorway and Swedish Engineering University projects without any solid reasons. Sialkot-Lahore Motorway is of immense importance for socio-economic uplift of the entire region covering Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore but seems that this project has been deferred due to political differences.
It is one such project, which revolutionise the area into hub of business activity by developing small industrial zones alongside the motorway. The basic concept of developing Sialkot-Lahore motorway is to accelerate the pace of industrial production and to generate employment opportunities in this golden triangle (Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat).
It was very unfortunate that Present Punjab government has totally ignored the needs and requirements of dwellers and especially business tycoons of this region. Billions of rupees were being spent on sasti roti and development projects in Lahore while the need based projects totally ignore. The top leadership and high-ups of the government have failed to undertake mega projects outside Lahore which has widen disparities; and it seems that top leadership thinks through his hat.
Similarly, another mega project Swedish Engineering University was also in limbo. Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) 1, 30, 000 Euro has already provided as seed money for the project as part of its contribution. The concept behind establishment of University is to cater to the needs of industrial sector of Sialkot through providing research and development support as well as looking after technology and other related issues. The concerned high ups have failed to justify the delay in undertaking the both the mega projects.
Apart from the slow pace of development work on Sialkot-Daska road was creating serious hardships to Gujranwala and Lahore bound travellers. The slow development work on Sialkot-Pasrur road project was also creating not only for travellers but also for dwellers.
