Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan has said that President Asif Ali Zardari using his power under Article 186 of the Constitution decided to file a reference in the Supreme Court to reopen Shaheed Z. A. Bhutto case. Talking to the media at the residence of PPP leader Furrukh Suhail here on Sunday he said Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leadership believed in the rule of law in the country.
He dispelled the impression that the party had left PPP MPA Sharjeel Mamon and Senator Taj Haider alone to face the contempt of court proceedings. "We are united and PPP will never leave its workers helpless," he added.
Awan said that Sharjeel Mamon and Taj Haider would appear in the court to follow the footprint of their beloved leader Shaheed Z. A. Bhutto.
He said the PPP had always presented their workers and leaders for accountability and they never afraid of any kind of accountability.
Commenting on by-election being held in DG Khan, he drew the attention of people of the Southern Punjab towards discrimination of Punjab government by cutting down the annual development budget from Rs8 billion to Rs6.7 billion. However, budget for Kalma Chowk and Ring Road Lahore projects was not allocated in the annual budget and now huge amount of Rs2.5 billion were being spent on the both projects.
Similarly a cut was done in the educational budget from Rs23 billion to Rs18.6 billion and the same practice was repeated by the Punjab government in budgetary allocations for doctors by cutting their annual grant from Rs14.5 billion to Rs9.97 billion, Awan said.
The law minister appealed to the people of DG Khan to keep these facts in their minds while casting their votes in by-election. He said that the accountability should be for all without any discrimination.
