Hundreds of Christian sanitary workers of the Solid Waste Management Company (SWMC), a wing of the City District Government Lahore ended their two-day sit in (Dharna) in front of the Punjab Assembly at Charing Cross on the busy Mall Road in the heart of the city here on Tuesday evening after assurance by the government that action will be taken against the Managing Director SWMC Wasim Ajmal Chaudhry accused of blasphemy of the Holy Bible.
Addressing the protesting sanitary workers provincial minister for minorities affairs and human rights Kamran Michael said the special committee of the Punjab Assembly formed to look into the matter has found Waseem Akram Chaudhry guilty of blasphemy and a case will be registered against him.
Earlier, Christian workers of the SWMC, had submitted an application to the Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Station alleging their Managing Director of committing blasphemy of the Holy Bible. They told Business Recorder that their representatives had approached Wasim Ajmal Chaudhry and had asked for two hours of relaxation each day in the duty of the Christian Sanitary workers till Easter (Aril 24), mainly because of the stress of fasting. They alleged that the MD called us 'chooray' (untouchables) and said Chooray had no religion.
