This refers to Interior Minister Rahman Malik's statement, made hours before the commencement of the highly charged semi-final match between arch rivals Pakistan and India, in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup tournament, wherein he warned the members of the national cricket team not to be involved in 'match-fixing'.
Malik, in his usual broken English, went on to state that the Pakistani cricketers are, "being watched and are under constant surveillance" for any possible wrongdoing in the context of match fixing.
Malik, during the last 3 years of his inept, incompetent and 'foot-in-the-mouth' tenure as the interior minister, has made many a stupid and unwarranted statement, but the above one takes the cake as being the daftest yet statement that has made the entire nation go livid, to the brim.
Malik is the kind of individual, whose statements could upset even a rock! This is simply unbelievable that any person, in a position of responsibility could make such a highly objectionable statement. Malik is representative and reflective of the lack of intellectual depth, sagacity, the hallmark of the PPP as a party and that of its leadership.
One should not be surprised if tomorrow, PPP's spokesperson, leaders and cabinet colleagues jump to his support by making statements, such as that "Rahaman Malik was misquoted by the 'vicious' media, his statement was taken out of context, twisted and misreported to deliberately malign the PPP and its leadership to tarnish their image under sinister conspiracy."
