with the rise in mercury, prolonged electricity loadshedding is being carried out across the country particularly in rural areas. According to sources in Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), the loadshedding duration in remote areas of Sindh and Balochistan has reached 16-20 hours against 6-10 hours in Punjab.
The Pepco officials said that short supply of gas by the SNGPL to the power plants has led to prolonged power cuts in the country. The short supply of gas has become a gruesome problem for the SNGPL officials, shifting the burden both on power and textile sector. Interestingly, both the sectors have importance for the national economy. Therefore, the SNGPL faces extraordinary pressure. The consumers are frustrated because of long power cuts, cursing the Pepco as well as the government for not overcoming the crisis despite of being three years in power.
