Recovery of missing families: LHC grants 10 days to federal, Punjab governments
The Lahore High Court on Friday granted 10 days to federal and Punjab governments to recover two Pakistani families which went missing since they accepted blood money from Raymond Davis. The court expressed annoyance when a federal law officer sought three weeks time to submit reply of federal government.
The court inquired, "Why the government is seeking adjournment after adjournment without any valid reason? They are citizens of Pakistan and it is the responsibility of government to trace their whereabouts, the court said. The court rejected the federal government's plea of deferment for three weeks and only granted it 10 days to find out families.
The court was hearing the petition of a bar member Malik Munsif Awan. The petitioner said both families had gone missing after the release of Davis in the double murder case and apprehended that somebody had kidnapped them as they had a huge amount of Rs 200 million with them. He, therefore, prayed the court to direct the respondents to recover the families and present them before the court.
