The Lahore High Court acting as an election tribunal here Friday dismissed an election petition challenging election of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Malik Riaz on the allegation of possessing bogus BA degree. Asif Hashmi, Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), a defeated candidate from NA-118 Lahore had filed the petition.
He, however, on Friday asked the court that he wanted to withdraw his petition. The court allowed the same but observed, "The case was in its final stage and withdrawing it now is a matter of concern."
The petitioner had alleged that Riaz Malik got a fake BA degree and as such liable to be declared disqualified under Article 62 and 63 of the constitution. Hashmi had also filed an application requesting the court to restrain the MNA from functioning as a national assembly member.
