Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called for withdrawal of increase in the petroleum prices to strengthen industry and trade activities and provide some relief to the common man. In a statement here on Friday, Vice Presidents FPCCI Khalid Tawab, Dawood Usman Jakhurra and Engr. Muhammad Usman Shaikh emphasised that without industrial growth, the country would be facing more economic and social problems.
Khalid Tawab said that the government has to work out a long-term plan for POL, energy solution and revenue generation. Dawood Jakhurra said that the government regulators, that is, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority should take care of the country's economy since a strong economy is the only solution to all problems.
He said that the business community has been calling for reduction in the power and gas tariffs along with their smooth supply and cut in POL prices, so that the industry could grow and become cost competitive in the regional and international markets. He feared that burden of taxes over trade and industries would affect the economy of the country.
