Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Muslim League considers service to masses a kind of worship and under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, it is implementing a comprehensive programme for rapid development in the province and welfare of people.
"Prosperity of people and provision of basic amenities to them is our agenda and all resources are being utilised for its accomplishment. Development schemes are being completed on priority basis in the backward and less-developed areas of the province," he was talking to provincial assembly members belonging to various districts, here on Saturday. Elected representatives apprised the chief minister of the pace of ongoing development schemes and problems of the people of their respective areas.
The CM said revolutionary steps have been taken for provision of modern facilities of education and health to the people in the province, particularly south Punjab and other backward areas. "Besides setting up Danish Schools equipped with latest educational facilities in the less-developed areas of the province, mobile health units are being provided for provision of best medical facilities to the people of these areas at their doorstep. The units have started working in flood affected areas while they are being provided at the Tehsil level throughout the province under a phased programme," he added.
According to him, work is also going on Aashiyana Housing Project speedily for providing shelter to the low-income shelter-less people. After Lahore, work has also been started on low-cost housing schemes in Jehlum, Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Sargodha, he maintained. "Besides repair and construction of old roads, a network of new roads, underpasses and flyovers is being laid throughout the province. Horticulture has been promoted for making development projects attractive and all development schemes are being made eye-catching by planting maximum trees," he told the parliamentarians.
Shahbaz observed that corruption is the root cause of poverty, unemployment and price-hike. He said Pakistan has become dependent upon foreign countries due to corruption and plundering of national resources. "Every segment of the society will have to play its role for purging the country of menace of corruption and collective efforts will have to be made for eliminating scourge of corruption," he stressed. He urged upon the elected representatives to keep close liaison with the people and spare no effort for resolution of their problems. Those who met the Chief Minister included Arifa Khalid Pervaiz, Hanif Abbasi, Naeem Akhtar Bhabha, Shaukat Manzoor Cheema and Imran Nazir.
