India's water aggression against Pakistan: protest movement to be launched today
Pakistan Muttahida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) will launch a protest movement from Sunday, April 3, 2011, to highlight Indian's water aggression against Pakistan and to foil its plan of depriving Pakistan of its share of water by building dams on Chenab, Jehlum and Sindh (Indus).
The movement will be launched from Mirpur in Azad Jammu-o-Kashmir, where PMKM chief Muhammad Ayub Khan Mayo will apprise the media at a press conference about impact of construction of Kishan Ganga Dam on Pakistan's agriculture, the Mangla Dam and the cities of AJK.
The movement is jointly being organised by the Pakistan Water and Power Action Committee and Muthida Kisan Mahaz Azad Jammu-o-Kashmir. According to the plan, Muttahida Kisan Mahaz Azad Jammu-o-Kashmir and Pakistan Water and Power Action committee will also arrange a protest rally in Muzaffarabad on April 5, 2011 to highlight violations of human rights by India in held Jammu-o-Kashmir, construction of dams on Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh rivers by India which would result in less water to Pakistan making it unable to irrigate its fertile lands or generate cheaper power to meet energy shortage.
"India through constructing new dams and water reservoirs wants to create a food crisis in Pakistan," said Muhammad Ayub Khan Mayo in a statement issued here on Saturday. He said that Indian project of Kishan Ganga Dam would ruin Azad Kashmir's beauty and environment. "This is a conspiracy to destroy Nelum-Jhelum Power Project and an open economic war against the people of Pakistan and Azad Jammu-o-Kashmir," he observed. He said that workers of Mutahida Kisan Mahaz, AJK and Pakistan Water and Power Action Committee will also submit a memorandum to UNO High Commission at Muzaffarabad the same day, drawing the attention of the world conscience towards the Indian plan and its negative impact on AJK and Pakistan.
