The Population Census Organisation (PCO) of Statistics division has finalised all arrangements across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan for holding of the much awaited 6th Population and Housing Census 2011 from April 5 this year.
"The Council of Common Interest (CCI) has given final approval in November 2010 for holding of 6th Population and Housing Census in two phases from April 5 this year.
According to the schedule housing census would begin with house listing operation from April 5 to 19 which would be followed the main population and housing census by the end of August or beginning of September this year", Secretary Statistics Division, Asif Bajwa told APP here Sunday.
He said that both phases would be completed within 15 days each and the final report of the 6th population and housing census would be submitted to the government by December this year. During the House listing exercise the authorised enumerators would visit door-to-door, mark the house number with green mark and the head of the house would be registered in the light of his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), he remarked.
The Secretary Statistics Division appealed the people to cooperate with the authorised enumerators for the successful completion of the national exercise for the benefit of the country.
Asif Bajwa said that the Census is being conducted in collaboration with the local administration and whenever the security of census staff would require, the local police would perform their security duty.
Replying to a question, regarding the population and housing census in the sensitive areas and steps taken for the security of the census staff, he said that in the areas of security operation, the Civil Armed Forces (CAF) would be available as and when required or merit.
It may be mentioned here that the Population Census Organisation (PCO) has established as many as 145,844 census blocks all across the country to conduct the much awaited Population and Housing Census 2011 from April 5, this year.
The process for the 6th Population and Housing Census would begin with house listing operation from April 5 to 19 which would be followed the main population and housing census in August or September this year.
According to Population Census Organisation sources each census block roughly comprises of 200 houses and one block would be assigned to one enumerator for conducting census.
Overall, 423 census districts have been established, having 3187 census charges sources said adding that there would be 20072 census circles of these charges to effectively conduct the census.
Each census charge in urban areas would include 5 to 7 circles and each census circle would comprise of 5 to 7 blocks while each census block would cover 200 to 250 houses.
In rural areas, census charge would include total number of patwar circles, the census circle would comprise of total number of mauzas while the census block would comprise of 200-250 houses.
