University of Agriculture, Faisalabad has established Model Farm at Post Graduate Agricultural Research Station (Model Farm) Jhang road with the installation of Drip Irrigation Mechanism along with Modern Precision Agriculture approaches in order to attract farming community towards innovative approaches.
In this regard an inaugural ceremony of Drip Irrigation Mechanism was held at PARS. Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor UAF inaugurated the model-farming project. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that UAF has been striving for community building services by conducting social, cultural and outreach programmes regarding transfer of technology at the doorstep of small farmers. He added that Water Management Research Centre (WMRC) of the University has designed and installed the Drip Irrigation System at PARS Campus with indigenous technology.
Dr Khan said that the purpose of setting up this model farm is to introduce modern technology packages for the farmers keeping in view their limited economic resources and affordability. He maintained that in the 1st Phase University would develop 25 acres of its fruit farms and agronomic practices by using modern precision techniques. He said that this technology demonstration would be available for the exhibition purpose throughout the year.
Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan told that we will exhibit zero tillage techniques with drip irrigation in orchards while tunnel farming and other innovations would also be displayed for the farmers. He said that farmers from all around the country could witness these technology packages daily 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Professor Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology highlighted the modern technology developed at WMRC.
