Department of Urdu and Pak Studies Peking University China organised a symposium year 2011 friendship here in International Exchange Centre in Peking University. The objective of the symposium was to find out possible avenues to accelerate the social relations on public level between the peoples of Pakistan and China.
The symposium emphasises the importance of knowledge of language and understanding of the civilisation of both countries and to create opportunities for the highest learning on Pakistani and Chinese culture and language at the universities level.
While addressing to the participants of the symposium Director Department of Urdu and Pak Studies Peking University Professor Tang Meng Sheng said the symposium is the one of the commitment of our sixty years long friendship with Pakistan and Prime Minster Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani announced year 2011 as friendship year during the visit of Premier Wen Jia Bao.
He further said that this year created an opportunity for the scholars of both countries to find out possible avenues for the people-to-people contact and universities can be a best platform for such opportunities. He further added that Chinese students are doing a lot for the development of Urdu language, promotion and understanding of Pakistani society in China. He introduced the PhD students who are doing their thesis on various topics about Pakistan. Tang Meng Sheng stressed that Chinese society is expecting that Pakistani students should also learn Chinese language and try to understand Chinese civilisation.
Pakistan Chair in Peking University Professor Dr Asmat Naz said she was working in the field of research and teaching since many decays but she did not find such a hard working and dedicated students like Chinese in any part of the world. Teachers and young Chinese scholars of Urdu department translating distinguish work of Urdu language into Chinese.
Guest of Honour of the symposium Deputy Chief of Mission Pakistan Embassy in Beijing Muhammad Hassan said the Pak-China friendship is a beautiful gift of our founding fathers. We are proud of it and should keep it nourishing. Government of Pakistan acknowledges the services of all those people who are contributing in this relationship whereas Peking University is ahead among all. At the end of the symposium the guest of honour Deputy Chief Mission Muhammad Hassan and Director Urdu and Pak studies Professor Thang Meng Sheng distributed the prizes among Chinese students who won first, second and third position in the Urdu calligraphy competition.
At the end of the symposium while answering to the question of Pakistani student Professor Than Meng Sheng said he write to many Universities of the Pakistan for the acceleration of university exchanges program but unfortunately NIML university in Islamabad give very positive response but accredited universities in oriental and cultural learning like Punjab University in Lahore reflect a cold shoulder. In my view universities are the best plat forms that can boost people to people contact through the promotion of language and culture Professor Thang added.-PR
