The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered the government to produce national ID cards of two accused, involved in attack on former president General Pervez Musharraf's convoy. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary with Justice Mohammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani was hearing review petitions of 10 persons sentenced to death in an attack on former president General Pervez Musharraf.
The lawyer for defence ministry, on court directives provided record of two accused - Rana Naveed and Amir Sohail's appeals but Sohail's name was written differently in the documents. In one document, his name was written as Ameer Sohail while in another it was mentioned as Amir Sohail alias Sajjid. Earlier, Hashmat Habib, counsel for Rana Naveed and Amir Sohail informed the court that his clients did not apply for appeals, while Shazia was acquitted of charges.
He stated Amir Sohail neither filed appeal against military court judgement nor enhancement of punishment was filed by the state and also no notice was issued to Amir regarding enhancement of the sentence, while Rana Naveed's signature was obtained on the proforma in jail.
Besides they were awarded death sentences. In September 2006 a Supreme Court bench after hearing the arguments had rejected the appeal pleas of accused in Pervez Musharraf attack case and upheld the High Court decision of death sentence to them, which was earlier awarded by the Military Court. Two attempts were made on the life of Pervez Musharraf in the area of Jhanda Cheechi, Rawalpindi on December 14 and 25, 2003. The persons who were awarded death sentences include Mushtaq Ahmed, chief technician Khalid Mehmood, Technician Nawazish Ali, Junior Technician Niaz Ahmed, Adnan Arshad, Naik Arshad Mehmood, Zubair Ahmed, Rashid Qureshi, Ghulam Sarwar Bhatti, Akhlas Akhlaq Ahmed, Amir Sohail and Rana Naveed. The hearing was adjourned till April 12.
