A protesting rally jointly organised by Pakistan Crop Protection Association (PCPA), pesticide dealers and Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) was held here on Tuesday to protest against the imposition of 17 percent tax on agriculture inputs like tractors, pesticide, fertilisers and agricultural implements terming it a conspiracy against the country's agriculture sector.
The rally led by Vice Chairman PCPA Saad Akbar Khan and President Kissan Board Sardar Zaffar was started from High Court Chowk and was concluded outside the Prime Minister House.
The protesters were of the view that the move would make the inputs costlier and discourage their usage to put a negative impact on the agriculture sector's output and to slow down the economy. Addressing the protesters Saad Akbar Khan said that new taxation measures and immediate impact may either result in decline or stagnant agricultural growth.
He said that increased food prices had proved a biggest intervention for the growers' community to go for more production; however, new taxation measures introduced by the Federal government would reverse the situation.-PR
