Dr Saghir Ahmed inaugurated the polio drive by administrating polio drops to three children in a field camp near Mubina Police Station Gulshan Town to mark the World Health Day here on Wednesday. CDGK established 18 field camps one in each town of the city.
The camps have three sections, one for general check up, testing and medication; the second is for polio drops and the third is for hepatitis screening and vaccination. Instead of a camp it is a field hospital, Dr Nasir Javed EDO Health said. Lady Health Workers (LHW) issue was persisting from long time, so we have already trained the TMA office and UC secretariat employees to work in the camps during the campaign, Dr Javed maintained.
The basic aims of these field hospitals are to increase the awareness of general medication in public and stop them from self-medication. The draw back of self-medication is that it reduces the natural immunity of a body against the diseases. Some times it has been observed that even heavy doses of antibiotics won't effect on a sick person who was habitual of self-medication, Dr Imdadullah Siddiqui Town Health Officer said. As the awareness and trust increases among the people the turn over of public towards camps become very good, we expect more than 1,000 people to visit this camp, Dr Imdad maintained.
LHWs have become over burden, their stance is also genuine and no doubt the campaign would effect, but what had been done earlier with the LHWs on National Highway or with the young doctors in Punjab is not the way of handling issues. It is better to behave like literate persons and address the issues properly, Dr Sageer after administrating the polio drops said.
I must request to the young doctors and LHWs that no doubt their issues are genuine but general public shouldn't be the sufferers because its not their fault, do some thing else to convey message instead of boycotting or strikes, Dr Sageer maintained.
