The country's basmati rice export has increased by 12 percent to $655.606 million in the first nine months of the current fiscal year FY11 as compared to $587.347 million in the corresponding period of FY10. The quantity of exported basmati rice increased by 14 percent to 786,902 tons in the period under review against 690,486 tons in the same period a year back.
However, the export of non-basmati rice has declined by 18 percent to $851.840 million in the nine months period this fiscal year against $1,042.770 million in the same period last year. On quantity basis, the non-basmati rice export declined by 26 percent to 1.947 million tons in the nine months of FY11 against 2.624 million tons in FY10. According to the data available here, the country's total rice exports have crossed 2.73 million tons in the nine months period of the current fiscal year.
