Speakers at a workshop stressed the need of computerisation of land records to eliminate public corruption. They were speaking at a two-day training workshop for capacity building of media representatives on urban land management, which was organised Shehri-CBE at local hotel on Wednesday.
They termed the manual records of land as major cause for public corruption, saying that the computerisation of land records would scale down the level of public corruption. They informed the participants that the recent study on land revealed that around 65 percent of court cases are linked with land disputes.
Furthermore, they said that although the Sindh government had initiated a computerisation process of land records, the same was unfortunately shelved because of security issues. Speakers were Dr Noman Ahmed, chairman, Department of Architecture & Planning, NED University, Amber Alibhai, general secretary Shehri-CBE and Farhan Anwar, urban planner, member, Shehri-CBE. Journalists from print and electronic media were present on the occasion.
