Apple’s executive believes Android’s Facial ID feature ‘stinks’
Apple’s iPhone X created a buzz in the market even before it was launched, mostly because of its Face ID feature and according to Apple, there can be no competition in this achievement.
According to Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller, Android-based smartphone manufacturers must be working hard to make the similar feature but it is not an easy task and no one can compete against Apple.
In an interview with Bright.nl, he was asked about his thoughts regarding Facial ID in other smartphones to which he replied ruthlessly, “They all stink.” He claimed that the Android version of the feature will never work in the same way Apple’s Face ID works. He pointed out that Face ID is not limited to unlocking the phone, but can also be used to access Apple Pay, activate Siri and do all of those things that the Home button used to do.
Huawei asserts it can do better than Apple’s Face ID
According to BGR, Schiller made clear that the Face ID feature is the one that shows Apple is still the leader in the market. He asserted that there is no competition of this feature. “Ultimately what we are doing is making privacy security even easier.”
Talking about other smartphones he said, “They don’t work in all the ways we need Face ID to work. We’re very aware that through the years the simple thing, this Home button, which started as the way you click to get to the Home screen, grew into doing so many things for us. We added Touch ID, it took you to the multitasking screen, paged Siri, activated Apple Pay. All through this one mechanical button.”
As Phone Arena reported, Schiller said, “We needed the best way for Face ID, we know of to enable us to easily unlock our device with our face, in a protected way with the Secure Enclave, and support all these other things. We had to solve all of that. Other things that people have tried with face haven’t been anything like that. Face ID is a unique implementation.”
