BP Plc's 225,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Ferndale, Washington, refinery was shutting units on Friday for a planned 60-day overhaul, according to sources familiar with refinery operations. The shutdowns will vary in length of time and overhauls will begin once the units are completely safe to work on, according to the sources.
A BP spokesman declined to discuss operations at the Ferndale refinery. Work will concentrate on overhauling the crude vacuum unit and the coking unit at the refinery to improve efficiency and reliability. Work will also be done on two diesel hydrotreaters, the refinery's hydrocracker and isomerization unit.
