Fool proof security would be provided to Sikh pilgrims during their visit to the Sikh temple Gurdwara Punja Sahib Hassanabdal on the eve of Besakhi festival.
District Police officer (DPO) Dr Akhter Abbass told newsmen on Sunday that due to prevailing law and order situation, fool proof security arrangements had been made for the pilgrims to avoid any untoward situation during their three-day stay at Sikh temple in Hassanabdal.
He said though the government had been guarding the Sikh Jathas for many years but now the security cover would be strengthened further. He said for the first time in the history, luggage scanners would be installed at all temples to provide security to the pilgrims, adding, not only elite police commandos but paramilitary officials would also be deployed for the safety and security of visiting Sikh pilgrims.
He said in connection with security arrangements, over 800 policemen shifts would perform the security duties, which would include four DSPs, six Inspectors, 11 Sub-Inspectors, 23 Assistant Sub- Inspectors, 33 Head Constables, 606 Constables, 30 Lady Constables and over 100 officials in plain clothes. He further said walk-through gates would also be installed at the entrance of Gurdwara and everyone would be checked through metal detectors before entrance into the Sikh temple.
