Federal Minister for Interprovincial Co-ordination Mian Raza Rabbani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday agreed to convene a joint meeting of vice chancellors of all the universities in Sindh province.
Federal Minister Mian Raza Rabbani met Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House here and discussed devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) along with other federal government departments to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment as well as other related issues.
Raza Rabbani said the process was underway to devolve the HEC to the provinces. The funding to all universities would continue. The students, who are getting education abroad under scholarships would not be affected, he added.
He claimed that the vice chancellors of all universities held an important meeting on Saturday fully supported the devolution of HEC to the provinces and also appreciated the performance of the Implementation Commission on the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
Mian Raza Rabbani told the Sindh CM that so far 10 departments have been devolved to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment while the process was underway for devolution of more departments. He noted that some 15 to 20 ministries would be devolved to the provinces under the 18th Amendment, by June 2011.
