Napoli pulled level on points with Serie A leaders AC Milan, at least for a couple of hours, after winning 2-0 at Bologna on Sunday. Lazio's 2-0 win over Parma moved them into the Champions League qualifying round spot while Palermo blew a two-goal lead at home to Cesena in their first game since the return of coach Delio Rossi, barely a month after he was sacked.
-- Lazio move into Champions League playoff spot
Cesena scored twice in stoppage time to draw 2-2 despite having two substitutes ordered from the bench and another player sent off in a fiery encounter. Luca Toni struck a late winner to give Juventus a 3-2 win over Genoa, the club where he spent the first half of the season, and keep alive their hopes of at least making the Europa League next season.
Napoli's win, thanks to first-half goals from Giuseppe Mascara and Marek Hamsik, pulled them level on 65 points with AC Milan, who visit Fiorentina later on Sunday (1845 GMT). Titleholders Inter Milan are third, two points behind the leaders, after Saturday's 2-0 win over Chievo Verona.
Napoli made the most of some poor defending from their opponents and Mascara was on hand to tap in the rebound after Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano allowed Ezequiel Lavezzi's backheel to slip out of his hands in the 30th minute.
Viviano then upended Lavezzi in first-half stoppage time and Hamsik converted the penalty to double Napoli's lead. Lazio moved into fourth place with 57 points, overtaking Udinese who lost 2-1 at home to AS Roma on Saturday, thanks to goals in either half from Brazilian midfielder Hernanes and Sergio Floccari.
Palermo's rollercoaster season continued against Cesena as Rossi returned to the hot seat, replacing Serse Cosmi who was sacked just a month into the job following last Sunday's 4-0 hammering by Catania in the Sicily derby.
Palermo raced to a 2-0 lead in only 36 minutes thanks to goals from Jasmin Kurtic and Mauricio Pinilla. Cesena's troubles deepened when Steve von Bergen was shown a straight red card for a foul on Pinilla in the 74th minute and Paolo Sammarco was ordered from the substitutes bench as Cesena protested.
Marco Parolo pulled one back in the second minute of stoppage time and, incredibly, Emanuele Giaccherini slotted home a loose ball to equalise with virtually the last kick of the match.
It was still not over as the celebrations led to a brawl on the touchline which earned a red card for unused Cesena substitute Alex Calderoni. Juventus twice came from behind to beat Genoa, staying six points behind Lazio and two adrift of sixth-placed AS Roma in the second Europa League spot.
