Range-bound session was witnessed on Karachi share market on Monday and the KSE-100 index, after moving both sides, closed at 11,868.77 with a loss of 37.10 points. The market opened on a positive note and the index hit 11,948.81 points intra-day high level. However, after mid-session investors opted to offload their holdings. That forced the index into negative at 11,866.75 points intra-day low level.
Investors' lack of interest was evident in the reducing trading volume at ready counter, which declined to 60.305 million shares as compared to 68.086 million shares traded on last Friday. Market capitalisation also declined, by Rs 10 billion, to Rs 3.163 trillion.
Of 359 active scrips, 168 closed in negative and 108 in positive, while values of 83 scrips remained unchanged. Nimir Ind Chemical was the volume leader with 4.148 million shares and gained Re 0.12 to close at Rs 3.29. DG Khan Cement lost Rs 1.26 to close at Rs 24.66 with 3.977 million shares. Pace (Pak) decreased by Re 0.36 to close at Rs 3.31 with 3.641 million shares. Jahangir Siddiqui Co closed at Rs 7.80, down Re 0.23 with 2.779 million shares.
Azgard Nine lost Re 0.41 to close at Rs 7.74 with 2.041 million shares. Lotte Pakistan PTA closed at Rs 15.85, slightly up by Re 0.01 with 2.029 million shares. Pak Elektron declined by Re 0.69 to close at Rs 13.00 with 2.025 million shares. Summit Bank gained Re 0.38 to close at Rs 3.10 with 1.703 million shares. Attock Refinery lost Re 0.85 to close at Rs 126.89 with 1.552 million shares. Amtex inched up by Re 0.06 to close at Rs 2.46 with 1.498 million shares. Indus Dyeing and Nestle Pakistan were the highest gainers increasing by Rs 13.16 and Rs 10.88 to close at Rs 303.46 and Rs 3528.76 respectively, while Unilever Pak and Fazal Textile were the worst losers declining by Rs 121.17 and Rs 16.68 to close at Rs 5039.29 and Rs 319.21 respectively.
Samar Iqbal at Topline Securities said that in line with regional markets the bourse closed in negative in a dull and ranged-bound session. "Despite it being result season, investors' interest continued to remain in low priced stocks. DGKC Right led the volume, followed by NICL", he added.
