A judicial inquiry-report on canal and spur breaches in floods was officially handed over to Punjab Home Secretary here Monday. Registrar Judicial Flood Inquiry Tribunal (JFIT), Irfan Saeed handed over the report in a ceremony at Lahore High Court.
Talking to media on the occasion, Saeed said the tribunal, headed by its chairman Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, along-with members Abdul Sattar Shakir and Shafqat Masood, completed the report on April 8, titled "A Rude Awakening" which consists of 475 pages supported by 91 appendices spread over 30,594 pages. About making the names of people responsible for breaches public, he refused to answer and contended that now the report is a public document.
Punjab government had constituted the three-member inquiry commission on September 2,2010 to probe breaching of canal protective embankments and spurs, causing loss to public property during floods in the province. The tribunal investigated reasons behind the breaches at Jinnah Barrage, Tunsa Barrage, Jampur and Kot Mitthan embankments.
