The three-day Besakhi festival of Sikh community started here Tuesday at Gurdawara Punja Sahib with participation of around 1400 Sikhs from India and 5000 from home. Over 10,000 participants will reach Gurdawara till last day festival on April 14 to celebrate the 312th Besakhi festival through special trains.
The Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) has arranged the accommodation for Sikh pilgrims inside the Gurdawara and made advanced security arrangements to celebrate the festival with peace and harmony. This year, the government also completed the renovation of Gurdawara while its was also given extra decoration this time to officially celebrate the minority festival in Pakistan.
Besakhi-the colourful festival of Sikh minority begins the Sikh new year which also marks the founding of Khalsa Panth as the Sikh Yatrees perform centuries old Besakhi rituals with devotion. The joyful festival lift up spirits of Sikh community and add colours to their lives showing their dedication for the religion.
Talking to APP, Chaudhry Tanveer from Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) said that pilgrims are provided with foolproof security and the Board has made all the arrangements to facilitate the Sikhs devotees for celebrating the festival in befitting manner. The board is also providing the visitors with the facilities of boarding and lodging along with security and medical treatment in case any of them falls sick during the days-long celebrations.
