Property, motor tax: Punjab Excise department to launch drive against defaulters
Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has decided to launch crackdown against big defaulters of property and motor tax and in addition to departmental action, tax recovery would be ensured through auctioning of the property. This was decided in a conference of directors of Excise Department presided over by Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman here on Tuesday.
Secretary Excise Kh. Shumail, DG Excise Anwar Rasheed, Divisional Directors of Excise Department as well as senior officers were present on the occasion. The meeting decided that recovery of arrears would be expedited and tax collection will be increased at least by 20 per cent compared to last year. The officials showing better performance would be rewarded. It also decided that initially action would be taken against big tax defaulters.
The meeting also decided that the drive for the recovery of motor vehicle tax would be accelerated in Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Multan Divisions. Performance of Excise officers would be evaluated in the light of revenue recovery. On the occasion, the minister informed the meeting that four excise police stations would also be set up in the next fiscal year for improving tax recovery and taking action against tax evaders.
The minister said entire data of excise should be computerised and online system be improved while monitoring of all the offices of the department be conducted on daily basis. He said low-income segments should not be harassed in connection with tax recovery and the department should utilise all its energies against the big tax defaulters.
