Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has earned about Rs 27 million for national exchequer by issuing over 141,939 tickets to traffic violators during first quarter of the year 2011.
Showing perseverance to basic objective of ensuring safe road environment, the ITP has successfully maintained exemplary traffic system in the Capital and it fined around 141,939 vehicles and generated Rs 26,806,200 for national exchequer, said Mir Vais Niaz, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) here on Tuesday while reviewing the overall performance of the ITP during the first quarter of the year 2011.
Mir Vais Niaz said that Help, Service and Equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP and it believes in Police - community participation and community based policing. ITP has become model of excellence through its service-oriented policies and further endeavouring to come up to the expectations of the general public by ensuring traffic discipline in the city, he added.
The data reviewed in the meeting revealed that out of 141,939 tickets, 7826 fine tickets were issued for careless driving, 1708 public transport vehicles were fined for boarding passengers in dangerous position, 1892 vehicles fined for having defective lights, 1913 for driving on wrong side, 2060 for driving on one way, 2616 vehicles fined for being driven without registration number plates, 1677 for being driven without driving license, 7030 for not giving way to other vehicles, 4404 over lane violation, 461 vans for misbehaving with passengers, 6160 for wrong parking, 6306 for creating traffic hurdle, 2829 for overloading, 2549 for over-speeding, 3980 for wrong parking at bus stops, 1600 for parking vehicles on Zebra Crossing, 911 for using pressure horns, 5257 vans for violating routes, 1638 public service vehicles for driving vans or vehicles without route permit, 11439 for signal light violation, 309 vehicles for smoke emission, 1358 vehicles for using tinted glasses, 2917 for taking wrong turns, 140 over amateur driving, 17127 for not using seat belts during drive, 10525 for using mobile phone during drive and 2524 for using high beam during drive.
The SP (Traffic) said that fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure but to make citizens more law abiding to ensure their safety. He said that ITP personnel will continue their efforts for ensuring safe road environment in the Capital and urged the people to cooperate with them to make the city accident-free.
Mir Vais said ITP have succeeded in building image of a corruption-free and people-friendly force through hard work and eliminating the curse of corruption from the organisation. The SP said that ITP is making extra ordinary efforts to avoid mishaps, besides eliminating VIP culture, as equal application of law is the operational codes of the ITP, which has become the model of excellence for all law enforcement agencies.
Education teams of ITP visit public & private organisations, trade and transport unions, universities, colleges and schools to inculcate road safety tips through road safety training. In the formal training sessions thousands of drivers & other road users are educated. Furthermore, special training workshops have been designed for the PSV drivers.
